You can tell a lot about somebody by how they sleep. That's right -- whether you sleep flat on your back, curled up in a little ball or sprawled across the bed can provide some surprising insight to your personality.
According to a study by Chris Idzikowski, director of the Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service, there are six most-common sleep positions, and each one can give a real glimpse into what kind of person you are. "We are all aware of our body language when we are awake, but this is the first time we have been able to see what our subconscious posture says about us," he told the BBC News. "What's interesting is that the profile behind the posture is often very different from what we'd expect."

The Fetal
By far the most common sleeping position (41 percent of us curl up like this), fetal-position sleepers are generally tough on the outside, but soft and sensitive at heart. They're usually shy when first meeting someone, but soon open up and relax. Fun fact: Twice as many women as men sleep like this.
The Log
Those who lie on their side with both arms down are usually social, outgoing and enjoy being part of the in-crowd. "Logs" are very trusting of strangers, but are often characterized as gullible. This is the second most popular sleep style (15 percent).
The Yearner
Yearners (13 percent) sleep on their sides with both arms stretched out in front of them. They are said to have an open nature, but tend to be slightly suspicious and cynical. It takes them a while to make up their minds, but once they decide on something, they rarely waver.
The Soldier
If you sleep on your back with both arms pinned at your sides (8 percent), chances are you are quiet and reserved. You don't like to make a fuss, but do set high standards for yourself and others. Not-so-fun fact: Soldier-sleepers are more likely to snore and have a bad night's sleep.
The Freefall
Brace yourself: People who sleep on their stomachs with hands up around their head (7 percent) can come off as brash and unreserved, but are really a little nervy and thin-skinned underneath. Freefallers don't like criticism or extreme situations. Fun fact: Sleeping like this is good for digestion.
The Starfish
If you like on your back with both arms up on your pillow (5 percent), you are always ready to listen and often offer help where needed. Starfish sleepers generally make good friends -- but tend to dislike being the center of attention. Not-so-fun fact: Typically leads to snoring and restless sleep.
The remaining people studied said they either varied sleep positions of didn't really know how they slept.
Bonus fun fact: Most people sleep with one foot or leg hanging out of their sheets. After that, the next largest group sleeps with both feet hanging out the bottom. And 1 in 10 people cover themselves COMPLETELY with their blankets.
