Egg Drop Project.

It's a whole new year and a new semester has begun. Practically everything is the same. Except for the slight difference which is what I am studying right now. Many of you know that I am currently studying Quantity Surveying. Yes. I have already completed one year of the 4-year course. Yet I have already submitted my application for course transfer to Architecture course. :D

UTAR has finally have their Architecture course up and running. So screw it on what I am which course I am studying right now as I am attending both QS and Archi classes for now. It's a very complicated and confusing situation. So for the last one week, I attended Architecture classes and we had this Egg Drop project, which my title says it all.

We students are required to wrap it, protect it, and not to break our egg. Only natural materials can be used so no plastic, styrofoam and man-made materials. So all of us had to crack our head to think, think and think how are we going to design to protect our egg. Check out my process in protecting my precious egg.

My egg wrapping experience.

Cut the egg carton up into small cups.

Went to Uni the next day for my cardboard that I left in class.

Wrapped my egg up with the little cups from the egg carton together with PVA glue as well as cotton gauze stuffed inside.
The rubber band is to hold everything together while the waiting for the glue to dry up.

My friend Hon Sern came to help and taught me to wrap my egg up by some "mache" method. Went home and touched up his work.
Thanks Hon Sern! :) So I end up having some weird looking shape now.

I thought of making it round, which I think will not work,
but I still proceed with the idea as I was running our of time.
So I took those cardboard I brought back home,
cut them out into my desired shapes and wrapped them around the egg.

The end product?
I used A4 papers to wrapped everything up.
It looks like some kind of white ball yet it has some hexagon shape as well.
Compared it with another egg to show its size.

Now it's D-Day!

Pizza was served for us to enjoy before the egg dropping moment.
A very big thank you to our lecturer, Ar. Liaw for buying the pizzas for us. :)

Show casing our work.
11 of us. 11 eggs.
11 different designs and ways to protect that egg.

Getting ready to drop our eggs down to the concrete ground below.
Straight from the third floor!
Who's crazy idea was it!? I want to know.

After that, one by one we checked our eggs to see whether is there leakage.
And one by one the word "gone" came out of our mouths.
Means our eggs all gone.
Break.
Some don't even have to open their models to check their egg
as it's so obvious the egg is dripping.
Drip, drip..

Jia Lin was the only one with her egg still nicely intact.
So it's clear she's the winner. :)

The top 3 designs which won.
The other two was decided by a voting session on the design.

The top 3 winners for this project together with our lecturer, Ar. Liaw. :)
Together in their hands are the book prizes they won. :)

All in all, it was a fun project. at least now I can say I have done this project before. :) Though I find myself getting caught up in confusing and complicated situation very often recently. Why? I wonder.

What ya Want From Me by Adam Lambert.

Hey, slow it down
Whataya want from me
Whataya want from me
Yeah, I'm afraid
Whataya want from me
Whataya want from me

There might have been a time
I would give myself away
(Ooh) Once upon a time
I didn't give a damn
But now here we are
So whataya want from me
Whataya want from me

Just don't give up
I'm workin' it out
Please don't give in
I won't let you down
It messed me up, need a second to breathe
Just keep coming around
Hey, whataya want from me
Whataya want from me

Yeah, it's plain to see
That baby you're beautiful
And it's nothing wrong with you
It's me... I'm a freak
But thanks for lovin' me
Cause you're doing it perfectly

There might have been a time
When I would let you step away
[ Adam Lambert Whataya Want From Me lyrics found on http://www.lyricsoncall.com/lyrics/adam-lambert/whataya-want-from-me-lyrics.html ]
I wouldn't even try but I think
You could save my life

Just don't give up
I'm workin' it out
Please don't give in
I won't let you down
It messed me up, need a second to breathe
Just keep coming around
Hey, whataya want from me
Whataya want from me

Just don't give up on me
I won't let you down
No, I won't let you down

So
Just don't give up
I'm workin' it out
Please don't give in
I won't let you down
It messed me up, need a second to breathe
Just keep coming around
Hey, whataya want from me

Just don't give up
I'm workin' it out
Please don't give in
I won't let you down
It messed me up, need a second to breathe
Just keep coming around
Hey, whataya want from me
(Whataya want from me)
Whataya want from me
Whataya want from me

Just don't give up
I'm working it out.

I never want to let you go anymore.

They say good things come when you least expected it.
They say love comes when you don't even know.

You came
when I least expected it
You came
when I thought all hopes are lost

Only when we lose something, then we realised its value.
Only when we lose something, then only we learn to appreciate.

I just hope it ain't too late for me to learn once again
to appreciate the love you have given me

I see you through everything I do.
I want to be the reason for that smile on your face.
I want to see you smile at me, telling me I'm your beautiful girl.
I want to be in the center of your world.

I am myself when I am with you.
I am the happiest when I am with you.
Because of your love for me.

It's time to learn how to appreciate all the little things before it disappears.
You were and still are the best thing I never knew I needed.
You have never let me go.

We are still learning the Art of Love.

The Spy Next Door.

Are you a spy? Or like to be one someday? Or are you a spy next door?

It's another Jackie Chan movie after a long hiatus. When was his last movie? I don't recall. This one is no different than his previous action movies. All those kungfu fighting scenes are familiar to us watchers already. Yet this time, I think it shows us how Jackie Chan handles babysitting.

The Spy Next Door synopsis.

Former CIA spy Bob Ho (Chan) takes on his toughest assignment to date: looking after his girlfriend's three kids, who haven't exactly warmed to their mom's beau. And when one of the youngsters accidentally downloads a top-secret formula, Bob's longtime nemesis, a Russian terrorist, pays a visit to the family.

Here are some pictures from the movie.

From pictures you can see there's Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus's father as well as the guy from Hannah Montana The Movie. There's George Lopez as well, including the pig, cat and turtle, which are not shown in the pictures above.

Rating : 7/10

Overall the movie was not bad. I heard it was hilarious but I don't find it as funny as what people told me. But of course, I enjoy watching Jackie Chan and his movies. :)

Orientation Jan 2010 - WFC.

What does WFC stands for? Many of you would ask. It's our Welcome Freshmen Concert. An event full of performances to blow your mind off. So all you got to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the show. Oh and did I mention the entrance is free? :)

This is my second time being one of the committee member for WFC. Every year we have a theme, to represent the concert. This time round, the theme was Euphoria. No no, not the Ministry of Sound. Just plain Euphoria for this one.

Got to love the banner.
All thanks to Yan Ming, our Decoration Manager.

Now lets take a look at the performances we had for the day. Some pictures may be slightly blurry due to lighting problem and camera problem, because some of the I moved and zoomed in.

The first performance by a dancing group who calls themselves The Hazardous Engineers.
They are good. :)

Next we have singing.
It's common watch people sing during this kind of event.

and a duet with a pretty girl.

We also have a pianist in the house.

Now the next performance is a little different, one you don't get to see everyday.

This is Jodie, on trolley.
(I think this is how you spell his name)
A comedian.

Chinese Orchestra.

Then another singing.
This one reminds you of those olden day singing as the singer's voice is powerful,
plus the guy you see standing at the right side, is also awesomely good with the flute.

I'm sure everyone is interested in magic.
This time we have invited a magician.

Eu Jin the Magician.
He's good too. I wonder where the pigeon gone to though.

Another singing group.
Are you bored yet?

What's their names again? I can't recall.
The guitarist is Kevin I think.

We have the Chinese Yo-Yo performance too.

And another dance performance.

Don't they look like the Alvin and The Chipmunks to you?
Green, Red and Blue.
Minus the Emcee on the left.

Now last but not least, the last performance of the day.

The name's Han Ping.
He's very very awesome in playing the flute and another instrument, which I can't remember what is it called. He practically wooed the crowd that afternoon.

Ah now here's the pigeon.

The magician's pigeon.
It won't fly away though.

Overall, the event WAS a SUCCESS. A blast I would say. Our hard work paid off. We all enjoyed ourselves too in the process. Each and everyone of us played a part in making this event a success. Thank you all for your hard work. :)

We rock!
Extra one person in the picture.
Don't know who is he though.

Orientation Jan 2010 - Ice Breaking.

Its the orientation week for freshmen! :) I remember the first day of being the freshie in the campus. It was awkward, looking around to unfamiliar faces, walking around alone as well as wondering what to do to pass time. Orientation week is a week to make new friends, get familiar with the campus as well as getting to know your seniors. Unfortunately I only made 2 new friends.

All because I only attended the first day of orientation which is a MUST. We all know that orientation week is filled with talks and activities. Well, I did not regret not getting involved for my orientation that year. :D I am actually having fun right now helping out with the orientation. :)

On the 14th of January, Thursday, I went to help out for the Ice Breaking event.

Sadly, there's no ice to break.

There's quite a lot of games set up for the event though I do not know all of the activities names. I hope all the participants had fun playing and interacting with us. :)

Preparing for one of he games - Captain Ball.
Another two standing and sitting, doing nothing.

The fun starts now. :)

Notice the water mark on his shirt?
It's because he lost to me in a game and got splashed. ;P

This game is called "Tears of Heaven". Why?
This game requires the participants to fill the bottles placed on their heads.

No idea what game name is this. "Cross the Sea" I think.
We had raffia strings tied across the walkway and participants are required to cross the walkway with them standing on chairs.

This game had people eating sour plum?
My friend is one of the facilitators.
Sour!

This one requires you to transfer water from one end to another,
by using only your hair!
So you are bound to get wet. :D

Drip drip drip.
Hope we have collected enough water to beat the other group!

Unfortunately there is no pictures of the last to games which are "Captain Ball" and "Touch-N-Go". All because my camera has ran out of battery. To sum up the day, we definitely had fun playing around with friends, new and old, as well as getting to interact with the freshies. :)

The last event for the orientation week is the Welcome Freshmen Concert, which I am one of the committee member. :) Now that event, was DEFINITELY A BLAST. It's too bad for those who did not attend. Stay tune to hear from me about the event!
