There are things we don't want it to happen but have to accept, things we don't want to know but have to learn and people we can't live without but have to let go.

UTAR/KTAR parking woes.

I had to blog about something that some of us are all not aware of. It's true that there are limited spaces provided in the campus as well as around the campus. Those legal parking slots are as well, limited. I came by a blog link which have wrote about what happened one year ago. Now it's happening once again. CLICK HERE for link.

For 1 year I have studied at UTAR and I have not heard of such happenings. Until the day my friend's car's tires got inflated. Not once, but twice! At different areas. First time one tyre got deflated and next round, 2 tires! (As shown in picture below - after the tires were removed). I wonder whether those residence at Taman Bunga Raya (TBR) realized that every year the student intakes of UTAR and KTAR increases as well as the number of students that drives.

This banner was hung up recently at TBR regarding us parking as we like around the neighbour-hood. This banner says that we students, as well as those visitors are not to park our vehicles wherever we like. If we want to park, it's park at our own risk. We take responsibility for whatever risk we face.

Where are we to park if we can't park inside the campus or at TBR? Furthermore, some may get the chance to park in the campus this semester but not the next. Can someone tell me what can we do?

My friend's car's tires which got punctured. Notice the Viva at the back has it's tires punctured as well. That day only 3 cars got their tires punctured. All because the residence don't like us parking at his compound? It's not like we were blocking him or what. Yet the car that is not not parking around the house compound have nothing wrong. I wonder what is in the minds of these people. They will remove the cap and use pebbles to spoil the pin head to let the air out.

I came across that blog and I realized that I should voice out my views. The residence of TBR have also put up a banner telling the students of KTAR not to park around their housing areas. If we could enter the campus compound, we would not even want to park at TBR and walk into the campus! Those sabotage happened a year ago and now history is repeating itself.

Yes, we do study at KTAR/UTAR but we can't do anything if we are not given parking stickers to enter the campus to park. So we park around TBR. It does not matter whether it's yellow line, white line or none, as long as we get to park, we are satisfied. And as long as we know that we are not obstructing anybody or anything. Though we know the risk of getting summons. But having our tires punctured is a little too much. I can say this is the works of uncivilized people.

I don't meant to be rude but I feel that this has gone a little too far. Puncturing our vehicle tires will not prevent us from parking around TBR as we are not allowed to enter the campus without a parking sticker. It's does not mean that we study at UTAR/KTAR we have to park in the legalized parking spot or in the campus.

The blog i came upon has already stated most of what I had to say. It's really impractical for them to just puncture our vehicle tires as the road does not belongs to them, we are not blocking anyone, and there are limited parking spaces provided. Could they just be more civilised and issue a warning or notice instead of puncturing tires?! We are not to park in the campus without a valid parking sticker and now we are not allowed to park around TBR? Where are we supposed to park then?

30th June 2010

The whole row of vehicles that parked at this alley has it's tires punctured. Not one tyre but 2! Another of my friend's car has his tires punctured as well.

Deflated tyre of one of the cars that parked in that alley.

Again, I don't meant to be rude but it's a fact that this is an act of childishness and the works of uncivilised human beings. Are they that free to do this kind of stuff? Too free I guess. Some even purposely calls the DBKL to come and issue summons.

Maybe it would be best for us not to drive. Too much vehicles around! But we need our vehicles to travel for assignments as well as to travel from far places to school. We should need more parking spaces in campus.

Taken from the blog itself : It is not that we don't want to park inside our campus, but we don't manage to get the UTAR parking sticker!! The chances are limited and yet, DSA distributed less parking lots compared to last trimester!!

I hope this will enlighten some people put there to do something. It might not be a big change but at least, I hope to see something. I'm just voicing out my views regarding this matter. No harm there. So I urge everyone of you out there, if you do stumble upon this post, do drop me a comment or two if you have anything to say. Don't be afraid to voice out.

Cheers :)

  4. Hello The way.

Thank you for you comment. Thanks for informing about the parking sticker info. for this semester I think there is still space at S Block. Whereas for the main campus there I do not know. But As far as I know, S Block this time really got quite alot of parking. But of course, you need UTAR sticker to enter.

Yes, another thing would be right is those staying nearby should be able to take the public transport to school and give chances for those who stays far away from school.

  5. hi , yunz... I think the management also wan to solve this problem. But this problem is unsolvable. I think most of them (the management) already tried their best... Imagine if you are the management, u prefer students to complain the same issue to you every year or u prefer to settle the problem for students , so that they will be quiet forever? I think you will prefer the 2nd choice right? What they could achieve have already been done. The problems left are mostly unsolvable...I think this situation is the best (or still can be improved) situation that they can offer....

Maybe, UTAR can provide more buses to encourage students to go uni by bus. I think those who park at the main road (the road in front of ktar ) are those who stay far away from uni. They wake up early every morning. Why they wan to do it? Cz they know, if they go early (at around 730am), they could get nice parking lots. How about for those who stay in PV or near to UTAR? Some of them are not willing to wake up early....at the end , all nice parking lots have been taken . How? No parking, then they complain. I dint get sticker last semester, but i dint complain at all. I stay far away from uni. I woke up 630am everyday (even my cls was at 11am), I reached uni at around 730am , I got nice parking lot everyday.

It's not right for those residents to do that la. For those who kena , u guys can consider to make police report lor. But, usually , police will help the residents. wht to do ? @@

  6. Hi there ken.

Yes, I hope so too that the management wants to solve this problem. Yet I think it still can be improved as more and more students are really driving to school.

Yes, UTAR might need to have more buses and make them more frequent. Nowadays it's really hard to get nice parking even before 730am as most students realizes this problem and wake up early to get parking. Not only those staying nearby complains but also those who stays far away. It's even.

I do not drive a car but I feel for these people who got their tires inflated and getting summons. Yes, it is not right for the residence to do that. Police report won't do us any good. As you yourself can see it, things are pretty much one-sided still.

    Thanks for your comment.

  7. yun,hello to u also ^^

erm, regarding the S block.. i think a lot of ppl will complain why without sticker cant get to park there as last time...

actualy the case is like tis, last time utar allow students without stickers to park at S block, but there are sum students simply park their cars there, make the whole area looked messy... additionally, sum of noob even park their cars till the road was blocked, tis caused KTAR complain to UTAR management, and thus utar has no choice to set the rules, so tat juz car parks sticker owner are allow to enter the S block.

Anyway, nice to meet u yunz~

  8. Alex: SRC have been long aware of this matter, even from the previous 2 batch. I'm in year 4 of my studies and I'm already aware of the problem since when I'm in year 2.

We tried proposing to the president certain solutions to solve the parking issue, but once the parking issue is brought up, he will just brush it away saying there is no solution to it.

Even in his speech in orientation, he state that parking issues happens in every utar campus and there is no solution to it. When asked utilize the empty spaces in fes, he can only reply that the land belongs to ktar and we cannot any how do modification to it. He even say that do not care proposing new solution to him as he will just brush it away. 2 batches of SRC proposed solutions to him but to no avail.

Adding UTAR buses? To us that might be the solution. But to UTAR it would be a loss. Do you think UTAR only thinks about the student and will let itself lose money by adding more buses? Let me tell you how the management thinks: If I add more buses, yes it helps during peak hour problem solved, student happy. But how about the non peak hour? The bus goes and comes back with only 5-10 people inside. Its a loss to us. Who is going to pay the driver? the petrol? the maintenance for the bus? Don't think the fee you pay us is enough to cover those (although it should be enough, considering the large number of students).

Those who stay near are selfish enough not to take pubic transport and insist to drive. So who to blame? humans are all selfish. Drivers are selfish and so the residents too are selfish. So this is the result.

There are just too many students from both ktar and utar to have sufficient parking space here in setapak area. How to find a solution to it? no empty spaces around at all ...

  9. It is pretty annoying the way u guys park at TBR. Even a small lane, also want to fit big cars, that is obstructing the traffic flow.

Pls be considerate to TBR people, it is the nighbourhood, they can block u all stupid Utarians from parkking at that place.

  10. The way : Yes. True that people will complain because without sticker last time cars can park there.

Yet I think it's better for UTAR to do that as that place really park until very messy. Yet, now I realized that those who have the UTAR sticker does not park there at S Block. I wonder why though.

~K£cќ~ : Thank you for lightening our views on this matter.

Metzelder Siow : True enough we see students driving big cars to school. I have nothing to say about that. Thank you for your comment. :)
